A Global Mind.
A Local Heart.

Suresh Menon moved from India to the United States in 1991 with $100 in his pocket. Over 25 years, he's built companies marketing products across 35 countries. All of the holding companies he founded are headquartered right here in San Diego. He brings an engineer's precision and a business leader's vision to every challenge: understand the problem, organize resources, and deliver results.

Today, Suresh is a father of two daughters, ages 12 and 8, who attend public schools in the community where his family has lived for over two decades. He's a neighbor and community volunteer who believes real change happens when people roll up their sleeves and take responsibility for where they live.

Suresh holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from The Pennsylvania State University, where he was the first student to independently secure National Science Foundation funding for his department. He used that funding to help create paid internships for undergraduate students across materials science, mechanics, robotics, and engineering. He has been awarded over 50 patents worldwide, and his career spans manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure across three continents.

His experience spans aerospace, biotech, agriculture, and national defense. He and his teams contributed to quality assurance work on the V-22 Osprey, F-18, and F-35 programs at San Diego's North Island repair depot, and collaborated with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory personnel on materials for rocket propulsion research. His smart structure work alongside researchers at UCSD's Powell Labs was adopted by Caltrans to protect San Diego freeway infrastructure from erosion and earthquakes. He was part of the commercialization of technologies including explosives detection that was acquired by GE and later formed the basis of FAA's liquid inspection protocol for airline passengers. He was nominated to serve on San Diego's Small Business Advisory Group.

From establishing a San Diego holding company that created local jobs for over two decades, to working with federal partners to deploy bioweapon detection systems for the Department of Homeland Security, to developing plant-based alternatives to antibiotics in animal feed with his San Diego team, Suresh has consistently helped turn research into real-world impact. His team's rapid detection technology was made available to UCSD's Infectious Disease group during COVID, earning recognition as an X-PRIZE Finalist. He understands how to ensure innovation serves people, not bureaucracy.

Hands-On Service

Parks and public spaces

Parks are the living room of our community. They’re where families gather, kids play, and neighbors connect. When our parks are neglected, it shows. I believe investing in clean, safe, and well-maintained public spaces is one of the simplest ways to strengthen community pride and quality of life.

Schools and workforce development

Good schools should lead to real opportunities. Education shouldn’t stop at the classroom door. I care deeply about connecting learning to practical skills so students are prepared for meaningful work right here in San Diego. When we invest in schools and workforce pathways, we invest in long-term stability for families and neighborhoods.

Public Safety and Emergency Response

Safety requires preparation, coordination, and the right tools. I believe in supporting first responders and embracing smart technologies that help them do their jobs more effectively. Strong public safety isn’t just about response time. It’s about readiness, training, and protecting both residents and those who serve them.

Infrastructure and Utilities

Infrastructure is easy to ignore until it fails. Roads, water systems, and utilities are the backbone of daily life. I believe these systems should be reliable, well-maintained, and planned with the future in mind. Thoughtful infrastructure decisions today prevent bigger problems tomorrow.

Cost-of-living Challenges

Rising costs affect everything, especially families on fixed or limited incomes. I believe we need fairness and transparency when it comes to essentials like utilities and services. Addressing cost-of-living pressures isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about long-term thinking that protects the people who are most impacted.

Leadership is a duty, not a career.
